The tourist port, for 344 berths, full of all the most modern plant-engineering equipments, has the shape of an inside basin with the mouth faces to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The port isn’t open to vehicles and it’s possible to walk near outer works; these, to the river, depict the north Mole complex system where sea, Arno’s mouth, Apuane Alps and port can be admired.
The north Mole, accessible from the obelisk square, is a wide public promenade surrounded by vegetation.
It’s a “green line” which extends the renaturalization project of Arno’s holm zone till the mouth. To the port it’s an element of green, pedestrian and cycle link, which uses flights and stairs for movements from the high promenade to the quay, and vice versa.
It’s also a covered garage under the promenade, near some berths and easy to reach for yachtsmen, which eliminates the view of cars in the port area.
In the end, on the north Mole head there are bunkering, nautical crafts and the control tower.
On the opposite side, the south Mole encloses the mouth; also in this case the structure is organized on two levels: over the promenade, under the covered parking place for yachtsmen. Beyond a little square, with trees and garden seats, opens onto the port.
The port basin depth ranges from a maximum of -5 meters in the nearest area to the outer harbor, for class VIII bigger boats manoeuvre and landing, to -3.5 meters, so boats of class VI and VII can land near the port square.
Under the project all piers must be soldered on pales, except the first two near the port which are floating. The trample plane is made of staves, suitable for the sea environment, while chains bent to dead bodies, like buoys, are used for mooring.
